CONCEPT NOTE- 7th National Science Week – 20-2-18

Nairobi 6th May 2018.

Over 50 innovators exhibitors, Policy makers, scholars, academicians, scientists and entrepreneurs drawn from national and regional institutions will gather at the 7th National Science week which kicks off in Nairobi at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) from Monday 7th May to Friday 11th May 2018. It will be officially opened on Tuesday, 8th May 2018 by the Education Cabinet Secretary.

This year’s event has attracted participants and exhibitors from Universities, Research Institutions, Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurial Training (TVET) Institutions, International organizations and Development partners.  The event will provide a forum for engaging stakehold­ers on the contribution of Research, Science, Technology and Innovation towards achievement of “The Big Four” Action Plan. In addition the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063 (implemented through Science Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa – STISA 2024) will be considered.

The theme of this year’s event is “The Big Four” Action Plan. The panel discussions which begin on Monday will comprise four sub-themes namely Food security and nutrition, Affordable hous­ing, Manufacturing and Affordable health care for all. The event will also comprise keynote speeches, poster presentations and panel discussion sessions. A Robotic Contest and winners of the various regional TVET fairs will also be showcased.

The weeklong event articulates the Government’s policies on research, science, technology and innovation (ST&I) and aims to raise public awareness and popularize science, technology and innovation among the citizenry. The event also aims to appraise the country’s achievements and breakthroughs in application of ST&I for the country’s socio-economic growth and development.

Exhibitors will display various items related to scientific innovations. The exhibitions aim to  showcase,  celebrate,  recognize  and  reward  outstanding  Kenyan  scientists  and innovators. The forum also creates more opportunities for the innovative youths and empowers them on the important role played by science and technology.
